Mad 4 News
And the award goes to…
Mad 4 Marketing scooped four awards at this year’s ADDY® Gala, held at Cinema Paradiso in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Advertising Federation of Greater Fort Lauderdale (AdFed) put on a great event where glamorous ladies in cocktail dresses and suited gentlemen in well-polished shoes adorned the red carpet.
The 2009 Gold ADDY Award for a Mixed/Multiple Media Campaign in the consumer, local category went to Satori Apartments, for its ‘ZENsationally’ designed rickshaws, website, hand out, brochure, print ad and eye-catching site signage.
With its unusual advertising vehicle, the campaign put a different spin on conventional methods. Pedicabs all over Las Olas were wrapped in Satori graphics, the drivers wore bright Satori green t-shirts and not only handed out literature, but were briefed about the property so that they were able to answer basic questions from their passengers.
As for site signage, there was no settling on ordinary billboards. The entire site was wrapped with frame after frame of images and key messages and a giant banner was hung from the building itself.
Elyse Taylor, Mad 4 Marketing vice president, was very pleased with the gold award, “I am delighted to see the creativity contributed by the whole team has been recognized and that our client, Altman Companies, will have a new award to display,” she said.
Another Mad 4 Marketing award-winner was the Baptist Outpatient Services Country Walk Campaign which took a Silver ADDY Award in the Mixed/Multiple Media Campaign for the consumer, local category.
Carolina Taurel, art director, used her imagination to dream up some playful elements that would appeal to moms, dads and children alike, and to spread awareness about the diagnostic center which is specially designed Just For Kids.
The campaign was truly unique, with its colorful graphics and imaginative photography. The material represents the true spirit of children, capturing their imaginations just as the center itself.
Aside from the fact this was award-winning artwork, it was a lot of fun to work on for the whole team. Amanda Gonzalez, Marketing Director at Baptist Outpatient Services said of the award, “We knew a unique diagnostic center just for kids warranted a campaign that was just as innovative. Our collaboration with Mad 4 Marketing resulted in just that ”.
Mad 4 Marketing also took home a Silver Award for Jarden Latin America in the free-standing point of sale category. Senior Art Director, Roly Rodriguez, used his versatile creativity to inspire a highly functional, yet aesthetically appealing multi-brand piece.
The goal was to create a shelf display housing three brands; Oster, Sunbeam and FoodSaver in order to showcase many different products of each of the brands. To remedy this, interchangeable graphic and header cards were created. The unit also houses a monitor on which marketing videos are looped, according to brand.
“The challenge with this piece was meeting each brand’s standards while also maintaining an elegant look and feel,” said Roly of the project. The display will be used in various retail outlets throughout South America.
Finally, the Broward College cinema advertisement secured a Silver Award for its high-energy spot geared towards young high school graduates to pursue their passions and define their goals. The 30 second ad utilized animation and upbeat music to appeal to its younger demographic and is a far cry from the traditional education spots in the media.
The spot highlighted new programs and also a new identity for the college. It was a great success for the agency, demonstrating that awards are not dependent upon big budgets.
There was some tough competition and the panel of experts, made up of Ludmilla Gricenko Wells, Ph.D., Chad Schrader and Mike Tesch, had a difficult job. Chris Madsen, Mad 4 Marketing president said, ‘I am delighted to see the agency’s talent recognized within the industry on such a prestigious level". Winners from the Fort Lauderdale awards are forwarded onto District, and then the National Level.
Many of the Mad 4 Marketing team attended the gala to applaud the winnings. This year’s theme, dreamed up by Mad 4 Marketing’s own Amanda White, Programs Chair of AdFed, was Old Hollywood.
