Celebrating your wins at the end of the year should be fun and uncomplicated — but unfortunately, that’s not always the case!
If you try to share your good news with the world, it can come off as bragging. In fact, it can create chasms between you and others in your circles if they don’t feel like they get quite enough recognition or if they feel like they don’t have as much to brag about as you do.
And, of course, the first question you’ll get when the news is shared internally is: “Great! Can you double my budget next year?”
But that doesn’t mean that you should keep the good news to yourself.
Instead, we hope that — as the marketing pros — we can shed some light on ways to promote your end-of-year wins, internally and externally, in tasteful ways that bring everyone into the celebration with you.
How to Internally Celebrate Your Wins
- Host a Holiday Party
You might already hold an annual holiday party — but this is your chance to announce the wins and create a specific “moment” that’s all about your team and what they’ve accomplished. Whether it’s playing a slideshow, rolling out a truly dazzling multi-tier cake, or adding a surprise performance, you’ll want to showcase the achievements, share a genuine thank-you, and invite the team to celebrate while they’re all together.
- Reward Specific Milestones
If there are individual contributions or employees that should be called out, those shoutouts should come with company-wide kudos and a private bonus. Make it very clear what the “win” was: Instead of saying that someone was a “Top Performer,” say they brought in 38 new accounts. Challenge your team to beat the number next year, and be sure to make it fun—for example, with 38 glittery balloons tied to their desk on the day of the announcement.
- Memorialize the Moment
Successes shouldn’t be a flash in the pan. After the celebrating is done, keep a photo of the party or a plaque of someone’s recognition where it’s available to continue inspiring the team and bringing cheer throughout the following year. These are also great to show off to clients who visit the office. Which leads us to….
How to Share Your Good News Externally
- Publish an Impact Report
Whether or not your company already produces an annual report, you may or may not include all of your varying success within it. You can choose to add all of your wins there, or you can create a breakout impact report to publish when needed highlighting your roundup of successes and shared to those audiences that make sense depending on the nature of the wins. This can also live on your website.
- Thank Your Contributors
It’s helpful to thank everyone who made your successes possible. You can do this generally — such as a celebrity thanking “all the fans” — or specifically, naming each person and organization who contributed to the specific accomplishments. Of course, if you go that route, you must be delicate that you haven’t left anyone out who might feel they should be included! There’s also the option to combine both — generally thanking people in public-facing spaces and privately sending gifts to thank major contributors.
- Take It Public
For truly brag-worthy wins, like awards and record-breaking news, you might want to share them as widely as possible. From a media announcement to taking out an ad, there are many ways to share the news. Consider who would be interested in learning about the success and the best places for them to come across the news.
