The Marketing Audit That Only Takes 1 Hour and Sets Up a Successful Q4

Marketing has a funny way of accumulating clutter: A landing page gets built for one campaign and never updated. A call to action made perfect sense last spring but now promotes an event that’s long over. Three social platforms are being maintained because they’ve always been maintained—even though only one is bringing in meaningful traffic.

It happens to everyone.

The good news? You don’t need a week-long retreat or a deep-dive report to get back on track. Sometimes all it takes is one focused hour.

Think of it less as a deep cleaning and more as straightening the room before guests arrive. You’re looking for what’s obviously working, what’s obviously broken, and what’s quietly draining time and money. The takeaways will have a dramatic impact on your coming fiscal quarter.

So: Set a timer for 60 minutes and work through these 6 checkpoints.

1: Identify Your Money Paths. Can you name the handful of paths that consistently lead customers to your business? Here’s an obvious one: Your homepage. Here’s another: Your top-performing social media account. Find a few obvious candidates and then consider: Is it up to date? Does it share the information you’d hope that it does? What would you improve? Resist the urge to fix everything immediately. Just jot down what stands out—you’ll prioritize later.

2: Delete One Thing. This sounds scary, but we swear it’s not! Maybe there’s an entire page of your website dedicated to an event from 2015. Maybe there’s a social media platform that you never update but keep active anyway. Maybe it’s just an old team photo. One small deletion that brings your company a step forward will set the wheels in motion for further updates. But big projects are scary, and deleting just one thing doesn’t need to be. Start there.

3: Perform Your Own Customer Journey. How often do you experience your business the way a potential customer does? Google your company. Browse your website as if it’s your first visit. Try making a purchase or submitting a contact form. Fresh eyes reveal things you’ve stopped noticing. And if you already do these things quite often—great! Invite someone on your team who isn’t as familiar to do it, instead, and solicit their honest thoughts.

4: Read Like a Hater. Even well-intentioned businesses tend to focus on what they want to convey to their customers instead of what a potential customer wants. It’s normal. But if you put yourself in the shoes of a very critical, time-strapped customer, and then review your marketing materials, you will learn a lot. If you find yourself thinking: “Why did they choose that image?” or “How the heck do I contact these people?” then you’re on the right track. Take notes and think about what you could change to make even the haters happy.

5: Review Your Reviews. Customer satisfaction shouldn’t be guesswork. Read your online reviews, revisit old customer emails, and scan your most-visited FAQs. Together, they’ll tell you what’s working, what’s confusing, and where small changes could make a big difference.

6: Pick 1 Improvement to Get Started. You probably have a list of things you’d like to improve. Here’s the trick: Just pick one. Any one. Don’t spend too much time analyzing it. The faster you jump in, the sooner your momentum builds.

Sometimes the biggest gains come from spotting the obvious. Setting aside one focused hour can pay dividends all quarter long. If you find yourself with a big to-do list, but you want to stay focused and efficient, we can help. We’ll customize this audit for your business and your goals through the end of the year and into 2027. Who knows? Your most productive hour might just be your consultation with Mad 4 Marketing.
